Over the last three years, the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer has funded a pilot project of national professionally-led online support groups.
The objectives of the national work has been: 1) to build capacity across Canada to deliver professionally-facilitated online support groups for cancer patients and caregivers who are currently underserved because of barriers to access, and 2) to form a national collaboration of professionals able to develop the potential of online groups, and other internet-based educative and support resources for people living with cancer, through research.
With the support of CPAC, CancerChatCanada was developed to provide a national program of online cancer care. The research project is moving into its fourth year of operation, with new online groups offered to cancer patients and caregivers throughout Canada on an ongoing basis. Evaluation research on the project is currently underway.
