Who conducts research on online support groups in Ontario:
Dr. Karen Fergus is a clinical psychologist and assistant professor with the Department of Psychology at York University. She is cross-appointed at the Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre in Toronto where, in addition to her research activities, she has had an active psychotherapy and counseling practice since 1998. She is a NAPSCO member, and much of her time these days is dedicated to the development of online programs for individuals affected by cancer and their partners.

PYNK, at Toronto’s Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, offers young women with breast cancer and their families the opportunity to be guided through their entire journey by a highly specialized nurse. She acts as a kind of systems navigator for young women with breast cancer, ensuring that her patients receive a continuum of promising new treatments and care, from diagnosis through recovery and long-term follow-up.
