CancerChatCanada is an independent organization primarily funded by the federal government's Canadian Partnership against Cancer (CPAC). CancerChatCanada is committed to protecting and respecting the privacy of visitors and users of its website. This privacy policy applies to website information clearly identified as controlled by CancerChatCanada. CancerChatCanada connects Canadians to online support services and information regarding support for cancer patients and their families. Through its collaborative tools, CancerChatCanada also links people in the Canadian cancer community to each other.
This privacy policy explains how we collect, use and disclose personal information you provide to CancerChatCanada. This policy applies solely to personal information collected on CancerChatCanada. Personal information means any information that identifies you.
No personal information is required to visit or browse CancerChatCanada.
If you choose to sign up for our email list, your email address will only be used by CancerChatCanada for supplying information to you about our programs. Your email will not be shared with any outside organization. If you decide to register on our site and create an online profile, you consent to the collection, use and disclosure of your personal information as described below.
The information you provide on your profile and in the registration form is collected on our site via a secure internet protocol known a "SSP." This is the same level of privacy afforded by the online sites of all major banks and credit card companies. However, this is no guarantee that a breach of privacy will not occur. Should a breach in our security protocols that affect your privacy be detected you will be notified using the contact information you provided.
The information gathered during online registration is collected solely for the purpose of registering you in an online support group. Your email, other contact information or personal details regarding your illness will not be supplied to any other agency or organization. Should you decide to enroll in an online support group, other information will be asked for through separate secure correspondence and may be part of health research. This research and the Informed Consent process that is a part of this research will be explained should you enroll in an online group.
You may withdraw your consent to the use of your personal information by cancelling your registration through the CancerChatCanada at 1-800-663-3333 ext. 4965 or by contacting our privacy officer as provided below. If you withdraw your consent, you may not be able to use all sections and features of CancerChatCanada.
If you register as a CancerChatCanada user, we collect personal information for your user profile. In addition, we collect personal information that you may post on the site such as your comments on a discussion board. This information is for the sole use of CancerChatCanada staff for registration and management of the online support program and will not be shared with any other organization.
If you register to access CancerChatCanada, or other features that may be made available to registered users, you will be asked to provide us with the following personal information to create your user profile:
First name;
Last name;
Middle name (optional);
Email address;
Age group;
Gender;
Answers to challenge questions;
Questions regarding health concerns;
Questions regarding support care;
Postal code; and
Password.
This information will be used to customize content or identify services or resources that may be of relevance to you. It will also enable you to actively participate in online support communities. Once you register, your email will be associated with your username and challenge questions will be used to retrieve a lost password or username based on your email address.
If you request technical support from our Help Desk, in order for us to respond to your request, the following information is required:

When you visit CancerChatCanada we collect certain information from your browser using "cookies." Cookies are small files that are stored on your computer. We may use cookies to save user settings and streamline the user experience. Your browser software allows you to disable and delete cookies. Disabling or deleting cookies will not restrict your use of CancerChatCanada.
Disabling cookies may mean that your personal settings are not saved and you may need to enter them each time you visit. You will still be able to access all information and services.
All personal information collected by CancerChatCanada for your profile is stored on secure services located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
When you register as a CancerChatCanada user, you create your own profile. The first name and user name of your profile information will be displayed to all registered CancerChatCanada users participating within restricted communities to which you belong or have been granted membership.

Please keep in mind that comments, messages and other information that you choose to share while using CancerChatCanada's social networking features, such as discussion boards, will be available to members of applicable community groups. Other than limited access by CancerChatCanada and contracted suppliers in order to carry out account administration functions as described above, the personal information you create in your profile is accessible only by you using your user name and password. To protect the integrity of your profile, you must keep your password confidential. You are responsible for all uses of CancerChatCanada by anyone using your password.
CancerChatCanada may contain links to other websites that operate independently of CancerChatCanada and are not under our control. We provide links to other websites solely for your convenience and information. Other websites may have their own privacy notices, which we suggest you review if you visit any linked websites. CancerChatCanada is not responsible for the privacy practices of these organizations or the information that is collected through those websites or for any other use or disclosure of information by the operators of those websites.

CancerChatCanada regularly reviews all of its policies and procedures and we may change our privacy policy from time to time without notice.
